Wilson Brooks
Minister Wilson Brooks was born in Richmond, California on March 7, 1965 to proud parents, Wilson Brooks, Sr. And Beverly Jean Brooks.
At the age of 2, while in church, his mother discovered that he could play drums. This talent was nurtured by playing on empty oatmeal boxes, pots and pans. After breaking (destroying) many play drum sets, he received his first professional drum set. He was eleven. This was the start of his professional career as a musician. Minister Brooks started a music group. His group played at clubs, private parties, local talent shows, etc.
At age 13, he started studying Jazz music at the East Bay Center for Performing Arts in Richmond, California. It was also at the age of 13 that Wilson was filled with the Holy Ghost.
Minister Brooks was in love with Jesus and had a great love for music. Later on he was accepted in the Young Musician’s Program at the University of Cal Berkeley, under the direction of
Dr. William Bell. He has attended several Jazz Festivals, and received many “Best Musician” Awards. After graduating from El Cerrito High School in 1984, Minister Brooks attended Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill and Contra Costa College in San Pablo. He studied Business and Management. Minister Brooks toured with the Gospel Hummingbirds in Colorado, Nevada, Oregon, and New Mexico. In 2006, the group toured Austraila and Canada.
On March 17, 1987, Minister Brooks reunited with Bethel Temple Church in the City of Richmond, which is the church that he grew up in. The late Elder Joseph Turner was the Pastor. Elder Turner was preceded by Bethel Temple’s present Pastor, Betty R. Hendricks. Minister Brooks served as a Sunday School Teacher, Musician, Choir Member and Vice President of the Young People’s Department.
During his membership at Bethel Temple, Minister Brooks met and married his wife of approximately17 years, Sis. Adrienne Brooks. Sis. Adrienne Brooks is originally from Sacramento, California, where she attended Christ Temple Apostolic Church. After they married, they attended Bethel Temple together in Richmond, California. He became a licensed minister in 1995. They have three children, Kaila, Miriah and Joy Brooks. The family moved to Vallejo in 1991, and moved their membership to Christ Temple Apostolic Church of Vallejo, under the leadership of Elder Bryan E. Harris in 2002. In January 2007, the Brooks family relocated with Pastor Harris and merged with Emmanuel Apostolic Church in Vallejo, CA. Minister Brooks serves as an Associate Minister, Care Group Leader, Alter Worker’s Ministry, and Music Ministry. He is a supporter of other ministries that his family members are involved with, that include the Youth and Adult Usher Board, Marriage Ministries, and Youth Ministries. He has headed several musician classes as well as developed an Annual Drum-A-Thon program. He is anticipating Drum-A-Thon 2007. His CD entitled “Skillful Praise” was released in 2003.
Minister Brooks has worked for the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District for over ten years.
